The UUP bucked the trend in Armagh by increasing there share of the vote by almost five percent and picking up a seat from the DUP. The DUP lost a second seat to a former party member now standing as an independent. Sinn Fein also made a gain at the expense of the SDLP. The overall strength of the combined unionist and nationalist groups remained the same at eleven seats each.
