This constituency was slightly cut down from the old North Belfast.

The old North Belfast constituency was incorporated into the expanded North Belfast after 1995, with some tidying of the boundaries with West Belfast and South Antrim. The Member of Parliament throughout the period was Cecil Walker (UUP).
