In Northern Ireland there are schools that would be seen as 'mixed schools' because their pupils come from a number of religions and backgrounds. However, there is a small number of formally integrated schools. Formally integrated schools are required to promote an ethos of diversity, respect, and understanding between pupils from different religious beliefs, different social backgrounds, and differing abilities.
