Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey - Issp

International Social Survey Programme.

Each year over 44 countries participate in the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) in which the same module of questions is asked cross-nationally. Northern Ireland has taken part in this exercise since 1989 via the Northern Ireland Social Attitudes Survey (NISA) until 1996, and then more infrequently via the Northern Ireland Life and Times Survey (NILT).

Tables of results for ISSP modules are available on the NILT website. In addition, the Surveys Online (SOL) resource within ARK includes results for the NISA surveys, as well as for Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

Note that each module may be run in slightly different years in different countries/regions.

General information on the ISSP can be found on its website www.issp.org.

The ISSP datasets for all countries can be obtained from GESIS Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Germany, where the datasets from the member countries are assembled. The English-language version of the ISSP section of GESIS is at https://www.gesis.org/en/issp.

NILT is a freely available resource for anyone interested in attitudes of people in Northern Ireland. There is no charge to use the statistics or data available on this website. However, we are always interested in how the findings are used, and so would be very grateful if you would let us know how you have used them.
