- The Equality
Commission for Northern Ireland is an independent public
body established under the Northern Ireland Act 1998, and replaces
the Equality Opportunities Commission for Northern Ireland.
Its responsibilities include discrimination based on sex
or on sexual
orientation.
- The responsibility
of the Gender
Strategy Unit within the Office
of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM)
is to develop and implement a Gender Equality Strategy to tackle
inequalities between men and women, and boys and girls where
that inequality relates to their gender, marital or relationship
status, whether or not they have dependants or caring responsibilities
or are transgendered.
- Sexual
orientation equality issues also fall into the remit of
OFMDFM.

bring about measurable improvements in the position of women

on women in Northern Ireland, and also on sexual
