Conflict textiles

Conflict textiles
Conflict textiles, which is an Associated Site of CAIN, is home to a large collection of international textiles, exhibitions and associated events, all of which focus on elements of conflict and human rights abuses.

A rotating display of textiles was installed in the McClay library at Queen's University in 2021, and the first rotation will take place on 6 April. At an event at Queen's (in person with simultaneous online streaming) on 6 April, Roberta Bacic (curator of the archive) will introduce each of the textiles selected for the exhibition.

Book chapter on elder abuse

Gemma Carney (ARK) and Lorna Montgomery (Queen's University Belfast) have written a chapter on elder abuse in a new book Critical Gerontology for Social Workers, edited by Sandra Torres and Sarah Donnelly, and published by Policy Press.

In this chapter, Montgomery and Carney draw out the potential benefits of taking a critical gerontology approach to analysing elder abuse. Using practice case studies they also offer practical advice for social workers dealing with elder abuse, an ill-defined and contested area of study in ageing societies.

National Centre for Research Methods

National Centre for Research Methods
ARK is an Associated Centre partner of the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM), which undertakes methodological research and training in the social sciences. ARK facilitates many of these courses in Northern Ireland, although most courses are currently held online.

A full list of training courses, as well as learning resources, podcasts and videos are available on the NCRM website. These resources are extremely useful for students and researchers. In addition, trainers and educators may find them helpful in their own teaching.
