Social Care in the Four Nations of the UK

We were delighted to welcome Professor Catherine Needham (University of Birmingham) to Belfast on 31st January. Professor Needham was invited by ARK to provide a lecture on Social Care in the Four Nations of the UK.

In her lecture, Professor Needham discussed how crises in social care are portrayed differently across the four nations of the UK. She also highlighted the difficulties of focusing on an outcome based approach in social care along with the nation with the most active policies in social care.

International Love Data Week

International Love Data Week
International Love Data Week falls on 12-16 February 2024. The aim of the week is to celebrate data, and to raise awareness about the importance of data science and management.

ARK are passionate about data and its accessibility to inform policy and debate. On our website, you can find the datasets and tables of results from our three public attitudes surveys - Northern Ireland Life & Times, Young Life & Times, and Kids' Life & Times - and much more.

International Day of Social Justice

20 February is World Justice Day. Data from recent ARK surveys show that:
  • 38% of respondents to the 2022 Northern Ireland Life and Times (NILT) survey said that they had experienced financial hardship in the previous 12 months.
  • 43% of respondents to the 2022 NILT survey agreed or strongly agreed that Northern Ireland is a place where people respect each other.
  • 33% of 16 year olds taking part in the 2023 Young Life and Times survey agreed or strong agreed that refugees and asylum seekers are not respected in Northern Ireland.
