Economic Empowerment for Survivors of Domestic Violence by Sarah Lawrence is a new Policy Brief outlining policy and practice initiatives that address economic abuse.

The publication also highlights attitudinal research within the 2020 Northern Ireland Life and Times and 2020-21 Young Life & Times surveys. Findings from these surveys are the focus of two Research Updates by Susan Lagdon and colleagues:

• Young People's Understanding of Coercive Control
• Public Understanding of Coercive Control

The Dementia in the Minds of Characters and Readers project investigates how the language of contemporary fiction represents the minds of characters with dementia.

Running throughout the project is a series of outreach and impact activities, such as the recent Dementia Fiction Festival. Videos of many of our events and presentations are available on the project's YouTube channel.


Gemma Carney will give the presentation Perspectives on Dementia: Insights from a Study of Characters and Readers in Dementia Fiction at the Language, Ideology and Power Research group at Lancaster University at 12 noon on 25 November. The CAIN Associate Programme showcases how CAIN plays an important role in academic research and in the work of policy makers and practitioners. To date, three events have been held. Full details and videos of these events are available on the CAIN website.

The next webinar of Associate Programme was due to take place on Wednesday 1 December 2021: Partition and the Birth of Northern Ireland Revisited: Reflections on the Marking of a Decade of Centenaries with Dr Eamon Phoenix. This event has been postponed until early 2022, and the new date will be confirmed soon.
