Introduction

Welcome to the March edition of the ARK Newsletter, which gives an update on our latest activities. Find out about our teaching resources, online seminars, and more.

Teaching resources

Did you know that ARK has developed a series of teaching resources for a range of students and settings? These are suitable for young people aged 11 years and above at school and in youth settings, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate university students.

Teaching datasets
We have developed 8 teaching datasets based on ARK's suite of attitudinal surveys. These datasets have been designed to be used on courses teaching quantitative statistical analysis in the social sciences. Each dataset has accompanying background notes and instructions.

The datasets and documentation can be freely downloaded from the ARK website. They are also available from the UK Data Archive, which has an extensive range of resources relating to using survey data in teaching.

Tutorials for school and youth organisations
ARK in Schools provides Northern Ireland-specific educational materials for schools and organisations working with young people aged 11 years or over, and for young people themselves. There are 9 tutorials, each focusing on a specific topic. The activities in each module include discussion, debates and small group work. The modules build on information and data that are freely available across the different sections within the ARK site.

National Centre for Research Methods
The National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) undertakes methodological research and training in the social science. ARK facilitates many of these courses in Northern Ireland, which are suitable for postgraduate students and researchers. Information on previous and forthcoming courses are available on the ARK website.
