Elizabeth Martin

Elizabeth started her PhD studentship within the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social at Queen’s University Belfast in February 2014. The main focus of Elizabeth’s research was older women and domestic violence in Northern Ireland. She also looked at the issue of substance misuse amongst this population.

Taking a qualitative approach, this study explored the lived experiences of older women who have been in violent relationships. The project also examined what support services are available for these women with complex needs.

Elizabeth’s supervisors were Dr John Devaney and Dr Gemma Carney.

August 2015: Elizabeth is currently undertaking her fieldwork, and is looking for women to participate in the research.  For more information, click here.

June 2019: Elizabeth graduated from Queen’s University Belfast.   The ARK Ageing team is very proud of our first graduate!
